One or two new things ... (we arrived at Burwood a week ago after 5 days in Chch ICU).
- Tim too uncomfortable on ventilator during night (after 12 hrs happily off it yesterday), so night nurse took him off it again. He had the cuff down all the time and could talk. This morning Dr. decided enoughs enough. Off it altogether! Size 6 trachy taken out and replaced with a mini trach for 48 hrs. To come out on Wed. Ventilator wheeled out (again - lets hope it stays out this time).
- Tim is talking really clearly, though has some air leak with smaller trachy, until it all heals over.
- Dietician re-organised feeds into PEG tube to be between 6pm and 10 am each day, until Tim eats enough himself.
- SP catheter put in.
- I'm encouraged to phone 0800 83 83 83 - yes Pizza hut, for Cheese lovers stuffed crust! Tim ate three pieces. Yesterday he ate a little pot of KFC mashed potatoes and gravy and a drum stick dipped in gravy (with cuff deflated - approved by Viviane, swallowing lady). Tim very happy. And the day before - Leish's mothers curry and rice!
- Dr. bought about a dozen 5th year medical students in to meet Tim and I. I had photocopies of chest xrays from Middlemore, which were handed around for students to look at - of pneumothorax and pneumonias.
I've just been to have a wine with parents of an 18 yr old son, who are also staying at Burwood. A lovely family.
